MG Midget
The range started in 1961 with the MK 1, which was also sold as the Austin Healy Sprite Mk 2.
The MK 1 had removable side windows, made of floppy plastic. Sturdy ones with sliding perspex 'glass' were available as an optional extra. The hood had to be erected like a tent. Later models were far more refined, although by the time the rubber bumpers were introduced, the car's popularity was waning. The introduction of a 1500 CC engine, although far more powerful than the original 998cc block (found in numerous BMC vehicles), failed to halt the fall in sales.
