According to a 1959 factory press release, the Octavia was based mechanically on the 440. "It gains admiration at the first glance, due to its classical, purposeful elegance, that has nothing in common with the different extravagances of fashion, that try to attract attention at all costs." Remember: this is about the time the Mini was introduced!

Again a new design. This model, also known as the P-LV, was larger than its predecessor. It still had the panorama-style windscreen, but the completely redesigned rear and lower grille gave the new Kapitän a distinctive appearance.
When production ceased in December 1963 145.616 units had been manufactured.

In 1959 the globe in the centre of the grille had made way for more modern syling, although technically all remained the same.
De Soto 1959 Diplomat
The '59 Diplomat was powered by the "Golden Commando" 5.9 litre V8 engine, but a 'small' 3.7-litre 6 cylinder was also available. The fins were impressive, but nothing compared with the 1960 models.
