The Mark 3 acquired high bumpers to comply with safety requirements for the US market. Engine size was increased to 1296 cc.

The Spitfire was Triumph's answer to BMC's Austin-Healey Sprite and MG Migdet sports cars. Mechanically is was based on the Triumph Herald. It had an 1147 cc engine that produced 63 hp.
